A CrossFit angel

"Daddy there's no snow...so why is the pretty lady laying on the floor trying to make a snow angel?" "Sweetie, she's making a different kind of angel. This is a CrossFit angel." (It is sideways and the flash makes it a little hard to see, but you can totally see the top half at least.)

So Jerry decided yesterday that we were going to hit some strict presses and work up heavy before hitting a nasty little sprint circuit. Remember... draft horse, not a sprinter. I hated today's workout! Not only do I hate sprinting, but I somehow managed for the second time to pinch a nerve in my neck doing strict presses. I thought that when I yanked my hip flexer all out of whack a few weeks ago that that was terribly painful. I take it back. THIS is terribly painful. I can't get rid of it. I stretched, iced, and for the first time in 3 months I had to take Advil. (That's a testament to my pain tollerance increasing from CrossFit!) It hurts. I can't move my head really and I'm freakin' pissed. Now granted, I still hit a new 3 rep max, but still. (It's now 80 instead of 75. Last time I only got 80 up twice.) I just don't get it. If I could manage to stop hurting myself while doing CrossFit this would be fabulous!!!!!!! >:0

So anyhoo, yesterday's fun looked like this...

Warm-up
Work up heavy to a 3 rep max of strict press

WOD
15 KB swings
9 Burpees
21 Jumping Pull ups

Let me just say... I dislike burpees with a passion. (So then that makes no sense as to why I'm considering doing a workout that involves running and burpees today...hmmm... I sometimes wonder about my intelligance.) I managed to get this one in in 13:21 I think. I didn't write down my time because... well, see above... my neck hurt like hell. Jumping pullups and KB swings were brutal, but I made it. I'm going to my sister's tonight after work so I can get up early and go to her marathon with her in the morning. (So this is why I need to hit a workout today since obviously my stupid self didn't think things through to realize I won't be in tomorrow cause I'll be in Frederick!) So anyway, I'm going to try to get her to rub my shoulder and see if maybe she can get it to loosen a bit and at least stop pinching so damned much. Anyone have any thoughts on why this happens only on the strict press and how to make sure it does not happen again? I don't want to have to avoid the strict presses. I love lifting heavy toys! :(

(I'm listening to it right now... and it's not happy with me at all... in fact... it's swearing quite a bit...)

Re: shoulder - I've found that, if I get my elbows forward and up prior to the lift and then send the weight up and back, I have less pain. Just my experience.

Peace.

Brad... thanks for the thoughts...

I guess I just don't know how I did it, so I don't know what to tweak or how to change things. It's a little frustrating! :(

My client canceled today because he hurt his shoulder doing presses.

I am gonna do the WOD - I'm feelin good about my shoulders (knocking wood and stuff)
