Some Zone Math....

So today marks day 13 without soda. 13 days. Wow. Day 1 seems very long ago... and I remember going through day 1 thinking I had lost my ever loving mind (although in all fairness, I think that a lot.... a mind is a terrible thing to lose) and that there was no way I was ever going to give up soda. I've been having a rough few days and I'm having some trouble hanging onto the Zone and my goals. So today, to help inspire me, at least in the soda department, I did a little bit of Zone math. When you start to look at different numbers, it's amazing what you can see. So here is my day of Zone Math.

In the 13 days I have given up soda, this is what I have saved myself....

Number of sodas
3 (per day) X 13 days = 39 cans of soda

Sugar
3 (cans per day) X 42g (per soda)= 126g sugar per day

126g X 13 days= 1638g sugar

Calories
3 (cans per day) X 155 cal= 465 cal per day

465 (cal per day) X 13 days= 6045 cal in 13 days

Money
3 (cans per day) X $.75=$2.25 per day

$2.25 (per day) X 13 days= $29.25

Now, let's analyze our data shall we? First off, let's start with the calories. 6,045 calories. If you think that the average person bases their diet on 2,000 calories, I was DRINKING the calories for 3+ days worth of food. Wow. Just wow. I wasted more than 3 days of eating by drinking soda. That's a real mind blower. Furthermore, $30 in 13 days? Good lord! No wonder I was always broke! But perhaps the best part, is that that $30 that I saved. Yeah, it went to sign me up for my first 5K. So let's talk about choices shall we? How good do you think these choices are? Wanna kick your habit? You can too! Go for it! Set your goal, and take one day at a time. I want to make it to a month before I even allow myself one with dinner sometime. Only then will I truly feel like I've broken the addiction.

Habits are hard to break, but if you are willing to work hard, you can really make some good changes in your life. This is hard, but a good change for me to make. I hope to keep going. My chocolate habit is not gone, but it has lessened greatly. Soon, I will also have that managed as well.

Katie, good to see you are still holding strong! I had a dream the other night that you had had a soda to drink. I'm proud of you. the two week mark is right around the corner!!!

Thanks Adrienne! :) I'm trying to stick to it. Stress is wearing me down on the sweets thing, but I'm holding strong on the soda. I snuck a few starburts today... :( And my lunchmeat was bad today at lunch so I was a little unbalanced, but NO soda. I also turned down the cake at the staff meeting yesterday. :) Woot! If nothing else, I'm at least learning moderation and self-control. :) Oh, and I watched your vid from yesterday's high pull... damn! You look sick with that thing. Way to rock it out! :) How's the dragon slaying going?

Are you through the shakes yet?

I finally quit caffeine about three months ago and it was so hard! I wasn't as bad as you though, I was just a Dr. Pepper every day at least once a day...

Now I probably have a soda once a week and sometimes not at all! I don't miss the headaches and the shakes though!

Good for you!

Thanks Wendy! I am past the shakes (thankfully!) but I still get the ocassional headache. I'm on day 15 now! Woo! :) Still going strong! I hope to make a month before I even try one. I was pretty bad about it. I can see that now. Thanks for the encouragement! :)
